Pegasus Technologies Inc. has a large paper drawing archive consisting mostly of blue prints in a central location. Since Pegasus Technologies operates out of many different locations, their need to quickly make copies or convert drawings into electronic format for distribution was obvious.
Instead of out-sourcing their scanning needs, Pegasus Technologies decided to purchase a scanner to compliment their existing printer so they could reproduce electronic or paper copies of their blue prints. The scanning solution allowed Pegasus Technologies to meet internal requests for copies of blueprints on the same day. They purchased a GTCO CalComp ScanPlus IV 742 XL scanner from The Other Solutions, Inc.
Ninety-five percent of the ScanPlus IV 742 XL’s use is scanning to an electronic file format, most of which are PDF files. The other five percent of their scanning requirements are to reproduce their blueprints for paper copy distribution. The majority of their scans are done in black & white. Pegasus Technologies scans most of their documents at 400dpi with the remaining scanning applications at 500 dpi. Today, Pegasus Technologies is scanning approximately 75 drawings per month with a return on investment of roughly $3000 after the first year in use. The savings equals an internal rate of return of 36%, thus making the scanner investment highly profitable.
Pegasus Technologies was aware of GTCO Calcomp scanners and their reputation of quality of service and support. They established their buying criteria based on four key measures priorities: Scanning quality, performance, reliability and price.
